About Us
Our journey began when in 1979, a school caretaker approached us for bags to put in his bins as he was spending too much of his time cleaning the bins when the pupils put liquids, uneaten fruit and food left overs in the dustbins ( yes, that’s what we called them)
In the early days, bin bags were not a common item, most of us sold paper bags, for fruit and vegetables, bread, clothing and bags on a roll for fresh vegetables were a few years away.
Most of our bins were made of metal and plastic bins did not exist.
The very early binbags had problems as manufacturers had no point of reference. The sizes were all over the place. The thickness varied from bag to bag. As material was expensive, some manufacturers put the sweepings of the floor into the plastic mix, which led to holes as dirt and dust did not mix with plastic!
The early bags had poor seals, uneven seals and our top of the range Compactor was called a body bag because it was that thick.
As there was no standards, we all had our own specifications. We found that there was a market for a quality supplier and so WIM-PAC was born as a subsidiary to our food business.
There was a market for quality binbags, as the early imports from Malaysia, Thailand, China. Had no consistency and more bags came back than were sold. So we added Carrier bags to our range as the Far East was very competitive and the quality was rising fast.
We started to import from Europe , as the quality was better , there was more control and the lead times were shorter. Not to mention the fact that European companies were able to give us credit facilities which we could not get from the Far East. Some companies started to manufacture in the UK , especially for bespoke and printed work.
At the start we called our bags either Gold , Silver or Bronze ranges. Like the Olympics.
As the competition grew we moved over to our Diamond Range, so the bags were DAI 34, DAI 39 or DIA COMPACTORS, as too many variations as costly , to store, finance and keep adequate stocks and customers most bought the Gold range.
We established our first website in the 1990 , when a newly qualified university student, with a computer science degree, who was the sister of one of our customers offered to put one together for us.
So we acquired the domain name BINBAGS.COM.
After that we did not look back.
We made sure that our specifications were at the top, that our prices were competitive and our service was second to none.
We started a campaign for UK schools called “BAK to SKOOL 3+1=3.
If schools ordered 3 boxes , they received 4 boxes, something we do to the current day. We have schools in our system who have been with us 30 years plus.
We have over the years found that customers leave us only to find that they return to us as the quality of our offering was unmatched. Also between 2007 and 2017 ( the notorious financial ???? years we did not change our prices, a remarkable feat , as the country battled the bank crisis and a lot of businesses struggled).
We are able to say that our last price increase was 2022.
In recent years completion has increased and the more players mean lower prices. However, although the CHSA standard is being flown everywhere, our refusal to cut our quality has given us an edge and instead of cutting quality, we have improved our offerings.
Our Premium Wheelie bin Liners is double the thickness of most Wheelie bin liners and our Super Compactor is our new top of the range sack.
We have now embarked on a mission to supply not just bio-degradeable ( which we have done so for the last 8 years ) but added compostable bags as well.
The range will be rolled out in the next few months.
